“Not to be Bruised!” from NHK, “Close-up Now” on 2014.04.18

There you see two kinds of berries shot on Tuesday, May 27th. The first ones are raspberries and the other ones are blackberries. The stem of raspberries has many thorns. Raspberries are called “Ki-ichigo” in Japanese. And the floral language of it is, according to BKG Plant Dictionary, “jealousy” and “hope”.

The Japanese name of Blackberries is “Seiyo-yabu-ichigo”, which means “western strawberries in bush”. And its floral language is “delicate beauty”, I read on the same BKG.

Too much naturally, if the flower or the fruit was picked by us, they would never get angry. Far from that, the flower in a vase actually smells sweet in our rooms; the fruit actually gives us its sweet alimentation, which means that “they never *return hostility without kindness” rather than worrying about themselves.

We watch bad news on TV every day like visible disasters, coups, kidnappings, suicides, digital crimes, etc. And in each case, one or plural famous commentators *make it a rule to speak their “analyses or advices” ; *some humbly do and some with a triumphant air.

*make it a rule to~:決まって~する *with a triumphant air:したり顔で

The program of Close-up Now, “Not to be bruised!” didn’t go far beyond “Introducing current situation and the *analyses”.

When we overcome adversity, we need the power of “emotional control”, “self-esteem”, “self-efficacy” and “optimistic feeling”. … Indeed!

But, we need so much more … E.g. How should we do for “those who has little power to even call the *crisis center”? … Hum… It might be better for them to carefully watch these raspberries or blackberries that are now bearing their fruits, mightn’t it?

A, one of my foreign friends in Washington DC is worrying whether he had better resign from a big company he works in. I thought he couldn’t decide his near future even if he was watching that program. He is the top of a department with his ten *subordinates. His children are all independent from their parents; he looks to have enjoyed an enviable life.

To put it simply, he hates his status of company soldier in such a big organization.

The following words of wisdom were presented me from Ms. Q, one of Yoshy’s old friends in Slovenia, an English teacher of S/H school. Probably there have been full of various burdens in *all ages and countries. Here is Yoshy’s translation into Japanese below.

*all ages and countries:古今東西

As long as people have mouths, they will talk. … If you don’t do anything, they will talk bad. If you do something, they will talk bad. … Don’t bother about them – no matter what you do, they will always talk bad because they WANT to talk bad. … They will never be happy that you are able to do what they cannot do.

Five Rules to be Happy

One of Yoshy’s best foreign friends kindly forwarded a wonderful PPT to me.

The author is unknown. Yoshy appreciates both of you.

Japanese is Yoshy’s free Translation.>

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.

2. Free your mind from worries.

3. Live simply.

4. Give more.

5. Demand less, expect miracles in life.

While reading these five maxims very carefully, hum… Yoshy’s pet-dog, Erie’s way of living is very similar to them; I must respect her.

Remaining 19 maxims made me moving more. As this space is limited, they are omitted here; please click the PPT above. The level of this English is around the 3rd Eiken. Why don’t you enjoy trying to read them?
