子どもたちに向かって、傾いて立つ「栃の木：A Japanese Horse-Chestnut Leaning to Children
LLシホヤ新井教室の生徒たちに、「新井小学校はLL教室の西隣にあったんだよ。」といっても、信用してくれません。
Whenever Yoshy says to LL students of LL Shihoya Arai School, “Arai Elementary School was once next to the west side of LL Shihoya Arai School”, No one would believe that at all.
今は、かつての新井中学校があった、文化ホールの西側です。
As you know the present Arai Elementary School stands next to the west side of Cultural Hall, where ex Arai Junior High School was.
ヨッシーが幼稚園児のころから、遊んでいた「栃の木」をご紹介します。
Let me introduce “a Japanese horse chestnut” Yoshy used to play with since I was in a kindergarten-child.
1955年(S. 30)の「正門写真」の右奥に、「大礼記念碑」が見えますね。
You can see “the memorial stone-monument of Taisho-emperor’s enthronement” at the inner spot in the right on the picture taken in 1955 (S. 30), can’t you?
9月2日に撮影した「エリーと、栃の木」の左端にも、その「大礼記念碑」が見えますね。
And you can see it at the left edge of the picture, “a Japanese horse chestnut with Erie” take on this September 2nd, too, can’t you?
同じ敷地の今昔がお分かりですね。
You can see the same spot of now and past.
今は大木の「栃の木」は、幼稚園児がやっと隠れるほどの太さでした。
This “big tree” was once almost as thin as a kindergarten-child’s width.
かくれんぼの時、斜めにたった覚えがあります。
Because Yoshy remembers I have slantwise stand behind the tree to hide in our playing hide-and-seek.
植えた当時の先生が敢えて斜めにした理由が分かる気がします。
Now Yoshy feels like understanding the idea of teachers at that time, why they planted it slantwise.
写真左が、学び舎、新井幼稚園でした。
There was main school building with Arai Kindergarten at the left direction.
「子どもたちを招く憩いの森」にしたかったのではないか、「そして今でも招き続けている。」と、想像しています。
Perhaps they wanted to make “a place of relaxation for future children, like a small forest”; i.e. the tree has been inviting children, Yoshy thinks so.
毎朝毎晩、エリーとそこに佇む時、そう思います。
I think so whenever I hang around there while walking with Erie every morning and night,
