「アバター」等の最近のカタカナ語
幸か不幸か、ヨッシーはしたい仕事が多すぎて今流行りの「モバゲー」はしたことがありません。
Happily or unhappily, Yoshy has been too busy for doing my lots of favorite work to have an experience of playing “moba-gei”, which seems to mean “mobile-games”.
でも、英語指導者としては、新しいカタカナ語は知っておきたいです。
But I can’t help learning new katakana-words because my job is an instructor of teaching English.
「アバター」、「ソーシャルゲーム」、「フリーミアム」…などは、従来の英英辞典では、本来の意味しか出ていません。
Such words with the latest usage or another meaning as “avatar”, “social game”, and so on are not found in existing English-English dictionaries.
さらに、「フリーミアム」ともなると、「カバン語」ですので、日頃「アンテナ」を張っておかなくてはなりません。
Moreover, e.g. since “freemium” is a “blend-word”, I need receptive sense in daily news.
生涯、言葉の発見！…それもまた楽し！
Finding new words will continue until the day I die, hum… which also makes me happy!
