Sound

Clank …ed

I heard the door shut,

I knew you were out

Something lonesome is here

Clank …ing

I heard the door opening,

I knew you were coming

Something warm is here

Two sounds …

Something different for me

Mr. Sounds

The Wails of a Tree

The stream of time is…

My age is telling me what it is.

After just only standing here for a long time,

After just only watching many things;

Now I feel the time going by faster than before in recent years.

Just as long winter is going,

As if I was craving for spring,

I am rushed into wearing pale-pink flowers.

Passers-by watching me in full bloom

Sure say to me, “How lovely!”

My scattering petals in the wind look nice,

As well as light-green young leaves of mine.

Lots of caterpillars in summer make me worry

They also do passers-by.

In autumn, my clothes glow red and yellow, and…

They shine in their fatal hour; but…

After rustling on a concrete path,

They come to only refuse themselves in the end.

My family begins gathering my leaves at first -

Feels sorry to their neighbors …

Lots of limbs of mine were lopped off - at last…

As soon as the balance of natural circulation is lost,

Someone among us must fall a victim…

I knew who it was.

From Yoshy's Blog on 2015.05.27 (Wed)

Recently, one of Yoshy’s friends, a poet: Ms. Yamashita’s poem was quoted in “Minami Nihon Newspaper”; I’m happy to know.

To Pledge by Hooking Little Fingers

Never break our promise.

Hooking each other’s little fingers,

One of the biggest pledges!

Long ago, though pledging was in front of awful Gods,

Between Mom and her child,

Two friends and

Two lovers.

Long long ago, if we had broken our pledges,

The god must have forced us drink thousands of needles.

HE must have done us cut our little fingers.

HE must have done us rain ten thousand blows;

Which must have been a testimony of promise.

Which must have been a public commitment.

It’s been converted into manifestos and katakana-notation; and

Soon it would have been vanished.

The moment we believe it, it’s gone away.

Only despond remains;

Despond becomes bigger; a hope becomes smaller and smaller.

A pie drown on a paper never ever change into a real one;

Far from eating it, we can never even touch it forever.

If a politician had told a lie to us,
WE must have forced him drink thousands of needles.

Where is PUNISHMENT?

How could anyone believe PROMISE on the earth?

How could children believe HOOKING LITTLE FINGERS?

Instead,

I saw them setting a flag on their PC-games.

Rather than a forgettable promise only for a joyful moment,

I’m eager for unchangeable commitment dry as dust.

HE is cutting your little finger, don’t you see?

Your little finger is missing now, don’t you see?

Only the letter of PROMISE remains invisible, you see?

“White Rice with Miso-soup”

_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/

White rice and miso-soup

Steaming white rice

Just-cooked steamed white rice

Side dishes going well with it are …

Umeboshi and mentaiko

Natto and oshinko

Crisp toasted laver

Trickling a little soy sauce on the raw egg

そして

Anything else?

Yes. Miso-soup!

See, a peaceful atmosphere is wrapping me up

Look, white rice and miso-soup

ああ

Oh…

What a blissful moment!

“After Climbing the Spiral Steps of Chinese-spiranthes”

_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/_/

Although always I am trying to grow straight up to the sky,

いつも

Always

いつも

And always

I become quirk.

I become kink.

To the right,

And to the left.

The spiral steps of Chinese spiranthes

一段

One step,

一段

And another step.

I will keep climbing.

I will try to do,

Given a pollen mass.

Though this path is becoming narrower and narrower,

The sky is coming close.

If I could reach the top,

The sky would sure be within kissing distance.

I meet the ear … The wind is whispering. “Summer is coming soon.”

Ms. Yamashita Yoshie brought out her second poetry book, “Umi-no-Jukugo, or Combinations of Kanji” from the publisher of Choryu-Shuppan on October 2nd. Congratulations!

Although Yoshy is an amateur at “making and reading” poets, let me introduce one of my favorites.

(Page: 106-107)

Drops

I hear the sound from this shaken can.
Sounds clattering.

Though I believed the can had become empty,
Sounds clattering; it saying; “I’ve still got more.”

What came out of the can are …
Only white candy-drops.
My favorite ones colored red, green and yellow are all crumbs.

The white one was sweet but …
A little bit odd tasting.

I didn’t like it ― when I was a child.
Hum…Since when …
Did I suddenly become relishing that taste?

Clanging in my ears,
My old memories are ―
In a very few crumbs of white drops.
They are making a noise; saying “we are more and more.”

Introducing the collection of Yamashita Yoshie’s poems: “A Four-leaved Clover”

Choryu Co, Ltd published the collection of Yamashita Yoshie’s: “A Four-leaved Clover”, on September 29th, 2011. Let Yoshy introduce it here.

Ms. Yamashita is one of Mr. Yamamoto Terumichi’s students. He is an Advisor of Myoko Powerful English Club (M-PEC).

A friend’s friend is also a friend; Yoshy could be one of her friends thanks to him.

She was kind enough to present Yoshy her first collection, which arrived here just after February 25th, 2012.

While Yoshy was fighting against heavy snow, I enjoyed reading before going to bed.

Thanks to her, I could have got another pleasure of translating it into English.

“Crows” from “A Four-Leaved Clover” written by Yamashita

Crows are working from early morning today, too.

Ignoring the people around them…

They are poking our garbage bags.

They sometimes swoop on a road…

Glaring at even a car.

They fear nothing at all.

In the evening, on an electric wire,

Not caring about their heavy body,

They can perch on it without reeling.

They are chewing the fat now.

Coming into work in the early morning, early coming back home.

Even in the midnight, they enjoy their time…

Making a row at 2:00 in the morning.

Under blue urban sky,

No matter how much they are hated, again and again,

But they live energetically and wisely.

Even with a net, a scarecrow and a yellow bag…

The number of them are increasing.

“To Tell the Truth …” from “A Four-Leaved Clover” written by Yamashita Yoshie on September 29th, 2011

雲は

Cloud is

So white, but

We can’t look at it on our hands

空は

Sky is

So blue, but

We can’t look at it on our hands

夜は

Night is

So dark, but

We can’t look at it on our hands

Things we can see and

Supposed to be known

本当は

To tell the truth …

We might not know what they are at all

I wonder, is cloud really white?

I wonder, is sky really blue?

I wonder, is night really dark?

I believed it should be blue

In the scooped sea-water

I saw a little creature
