Yoshy, help me!
新井有線放送の「ヨッシーの英語でお喋り」、2月3月分4回の作文をたった今脱稿しました。
Yoshy has now finished writing four stories in February and March for “Yoshy’s English Corner” in Arai Yusen Broadcasting.
早いもので、3月で6年目が終わります。泥縄式にならないように、「話のネタ」を貯めていました。放送の前に一つご紹介！
Time has flown since the starting; the 6th year will finish in March this year. As I don’t want to use a stopgap measure, I’ve been stocking “things to talk about” very often. Let me introduce one just before broadcasting.
「Yoshy, help me」です。
数年前、妙高市の奉仕団体が国際交流のため、SwitzerlandのZermatt の市長夫妻、観光部長夫妻などの要人を招待した折に、ヨッシーが通訳をさせていただいたことがあります。前日になって、主催者代表の一人Tさんが切実な形相で私を訪ねてきました。「英語で質問されてタジタジするよりも、質問攻めにした方が、間が持てそうだから、質問したいことを書いてきたよ。英語に直して発音を教えてくれないか？」…そのメモを見ながら、「切羽詰まると、良い質問が浮かぶものだなあ」と感心させられました。「攻撃は最大の防御なり」：The best defense is offense. (×2)と大笑いしました。皆様もTさんになったつもりで「その英語」をイメージなさって声を出してみてください。
「妙高市へようこそ。今夜楽しんでください。」：Welcome to Myoko City. Have a good time tonight.
「いつ日本へ来られましたか?」：When did you come to Japan?
「京都はいかがでしたか？ここ妙高は？」：How did you feel Kyoto…and Myoko, here?
「日本には四季があります。今は秋です。もうすぐ葉が色づきます。」：We have 4 seasons in Japan. It is autumn now. Soon leaves are turning red, yellow and gold.
妙高山は2,454メートルです。Mt. Myoko is two thousand four hundred and fifty four high.
「日本酒はお好きですか？もう一杯如何ですか？」：How do you like Japanese sake? How about another cup of sake?
「笹寿しは、この辺の伝統的な食べ物です。ご飯の上に山菜、シーチキンなど、いろいろな具を乗せてあります。」：Sasa-zushi is one of traditional foods here. Various ingredients are put on the boiled rice; for example, cooked edible wild plants, oiled tuna, etc.
「和服は日本の伝統的な衣服です。普段は着ませんが儀式や祭に着用する事があります。」：Kimono is a Japanese traditional dress. We don’t wear it in usual, but we sometimes do at celebrations or festivals.
10万円から50万円くらいします。：It costs around between one hundred thousand and five hundred thousand yen.
「ご帰国はいつですか？」：When are you going to return home?
「一緒に歌いましょう。」Let’s sing together!
「写真を撮りましょう。」Let’s take a picture.
