久しぶりの縫物：ネズミを修理
先週、LLシホヤ新井教室のあるクラスで、マザーグースの「ネズミと時計」を歌っていました。
We were singing “Hickory Dickory Dick: A Mouse and A Clock” of Mother Goose in a class last week.
この挿絵は、ヨッシーが、1983年 (S. 58) 6月9日、カナダのバンクーバー、La Guardia 空港内にあった売店で購入した “The Real Mother Goose” (Rand Macnally & Company)からのものです。
This illustration was copied from the book, “The Real Mother Goose” (Rand Macnally & Company) which Yoshy bought at a shop in La Guardia Airport, Vancouver, Canada June 9th, 1983.
ところで、挿絵の上にある英文に、And down he run, …となっているのは、runsのミスプリではなく、「ほら、降りちゃうよ。」：時制のない原形動詞です。
BTW, some of us Japanese learners in LL Shihoya Arai School, Myoko Powerful English Club (M-PEC), etc would notice “run” in a phrase of “And down he run…” This is not a misprint, but an original form of verb: “run”, which shows us this phrase is tenseless.
ギャングエイジは、尻尾を振りまわしたくなりますね。取れてしまいました！
Most students called gang ages would like to fling a mouse around holding its tail, being at last removed!
慣れない手つきで尻尾を縫いつけました。
Yoshy sewed up its tail on the mouse with awkward hands.
縫っている間、エリーが眠ってしまい…「ほら、ネズミが降りちゃうよ。」と言ったら、目を覚ましました。
While Yoshy was sewing, Erie fell asleep… as soon as I said to her, “Hey, down the mouse run!” she awoke with dozy eyes.
エリーは、11年も生きているのに、まだ本物のネズミと会ったことがありません。
Happily for Erie or unhappily, though she lives eleven years, she hasn’t seen a real mouse yet.
