東本願寺の古写真、1897年 (明治30年) 放水試験：An Old Picture of Higashi-honganji Temple, Water-discharge Exercise in 1897 (Meiji 30)
この夏、友人のM住職から頂いた「暑中見舞い絵葉書」です。
One of Yoshy’s friends, a temple master, Mr. M sent me this “Summer Greeting Picture Card” this summer.
今から116年前の光景です。観ていて飽きません。
This scene was taken a picture 116 years ago. Yoshy never get tired of looking at this picture ever.
日傘をさして見物する人たちをじっくり見ていると、最新消火設備に暑さも忘れてびっくりしている様子が分かります。
Watching many viewers in it carefully, they seem to be very surprised at the latest fire extinguish equipment not feeling the heat.
日露戦争(1904-05：明治37-38)直前です。
The time was just before Japanese-Russo War (1904-05, Meiji 37-38).
この人たちは、百年後の今を、どう思っていたでしょうか？
How did these people think of today after 100 years later?
明治30年前後の出来ごとというと、…。
Let me introduce some affairs around the year of 1897 (M-30).
1894-95年(M-27-28)：日清戦争。
1894-95 (M-27-28)：Japanese-Sino War.
1895年(M-28)：下関条約調印。三国干渉。
1895 (M-28)：Treaty of Shimonoseki. Three Countries’ Intervention.
1898年(M-31)：岡倉天心、横山大観らが日本美術院を創設。
1898 (M-31)：Okakura Tenshin, Yokoyama Taikan, etc established the Japan Art Academy.
