スズメガの幼虫との遭遇：The Close Encounter of A Hawkmoth Larva
10月2日(水)、Rが偶然LLの庭の綿の木にいた芋虫を発見しました。
On Wednesday, October 2nd, R by chance found a caterpillar on a cotton tree in LL Garden.
体長11センチ、大きく黄色いスズメガの幼虫でした。
It was a hawkmoth larva; yellow and big, 11 cm long.
夕方のPAクラスの生徒に見せました。
Yoshy showed it to the students of PA class in the evening.
最近、こんな大きな幼虫は珍しくて、小3の生徒たちはびっくり！
The 3rd graders of elementary school were surprised at it, because recently we haven’t seen such a big larva around here.
「気持ち悪～！」、「きれい！」…などと、色んな奇声をあげました。
“Yucky!”, “Beautiful!”, etc. ... they gave various screams.
害虫なので嫌われ者ですが、収穫が終わりに近づいたLLの庭に戻しました。
R knew it was harmful, we returned it to LL Garden; because harvest is close to the end.
不思議なことに、実は、前日の夜中に、体長20センチもある大きなスズメガの成虫がLL事務所のドアにドシンドシンとぶつかっていたのです。
Strangely enough, an imago of hawkmoth whose length was more than 20 cm was striking against the window of the door of LL Office last midnight.
今思うと、「私の子を大事にして！」と言っていたように思えたのです。
Looking back; I had a gut feeling that it was crying, “Take care of my baby!”
10月3日朝、探しましたが、見つかりませんでした。
In the morning on the 3rd, I tried to find the larva, but in vain.
農薬を使わないLLの庭ですから、色んな虫に遭遇した一夏でした。
As we didn’t use any pesticide there, we met various insects and worms this summer.
