文部科学省は13日国際的に活躍できる人材を育成するため英語教育に関する実施計画をまとめた。中学校の英語授業は原則として英語で行い、高校の授業では発表や討論などに重点を置き卒業時に英検２級から準１級程度の英語力を身に付ける目標を設定した。2018年度から段階的に導入し、2020年度の全面実施を目指す。
Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology has developed an English-language teaching program with the aim of *nurturing young Japanese who are capable of *playing key roles in *international settings in the future. Under the program, English classes in *middle and high schools will be conducted in English in principle, and those in high schools will be focused on improving students' presentation and debating skills, with a goal of acquiring English proficiency *equivalent to the level of EIKEN Grade 2nd to Pre-1st tests. The program will be *implemented *in stages beginning in the 2018 academic year, with *full implementation expected in the 2020 academic year.
