ヨッシーには、国内外にたくさんの友人・先生がおられます。私は幸せ者です。まさしく、「よき友は人生の宝」です。時々、私の拙い英文を校正して下さいます。

Yoshy has lots of good friends in Japan and overseas. That is exactly “Good friends are among the greatest *assets in life.” Some of them sometimes help me proofread my poor translations.

<assets:財産、資産、強み>

今回の校正は、M-PEC顧問のS先生のものです。

This time, Mr. S did. He is one of Advisers of Myoko Powerful English Club (M-PEC).

上品で美しささえ感じる英訳です。「上には上が…。」S先生、ありがとうございます。

I can feel elegance and even beauty in his *expressions. “There is always someone better.” Thanks a lot, Mr. S!

私は、英語は教科ではなく、「意思疎通のための一つの手段」と捉えることが自然だと考えます。「国語力を高める」とは、他の教科の知識なくしては語れないと同様に、「ことばとしての英語力を高める」もまた、しかり。「英語を」ではなく、「英語で」、「数学、理科、社会…等の他の教科や社会常識」を、「聞き、話し、読み、書ける」ように子どもたちを育てたいと実践しています。

<以下は、S先生の英訳:The following is Mr. S’s translation.>

I believe that English should *be dealt with not as a school subject but as a "means of communication," and that it is a natural approach to learning English, or any other language for that matter. Just as improving *proficiency in the Japanese language, our mother tongue, requires a great deal of knowledge of other subjects. So does learning English. Instead of "teaching" children English, we must teach them "by means of English" such subjects as math, science, social studies, etc. as well as social common sense. To help children *acquire the ability to listen, speak, read and write is the basis on which the LL Shihoya Arai School operates.

<be dealt with~:~を論じる、対処する> <proficiency in~:~の熟達、堪能>

<acquire~:~を習得・獲得する>

恥ずかしいのですが、Yoshyの英訳と比較なさってください。:Though I’m ashamed, Yoshy’s is put below.

I believe that English is not a school-subject, but “just one way for our communications”, which seems to be natural. As “to improve proficiency of the language of Japanese” necessarily needs lots of knowledge of the other subjects, “to improve one of English as a language” also does them. Not “teaching English” to children, but we must teach them “such various subjects as math, science, social studies, and etc. including social common sense” “by English”. To have children be able to “listen to, tell, read and write” is the basis of the idea of LL Shihoya Arai School.
